Christopher Evans - Trumpet
Chris was formerly Associate Principal Trumpet with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, until relocating to London in 2019.
He holds an esteemed reputation as a fine freelance trumpet player, regularly working with English National Ballet, the Philharmonia, London Symphony, BBC Symphony, BBC Concert Orchestras and English Touring Opera. Having performed as a guest principal trumpet in these orchestras he has enjoyed a varied schedule of concerts, recording sessions and tours under the direction of conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Daniel Harding and Ginandrea Noseda.
Chris has won a number of awards for his performances as a soloist including First Prize in the GSMD Armourers and Brasiers Brass Prize, the Musicians Benevolent Fund Award, Craxton Memorial Trumpet Award, and the Philharmonia Orchestra Martyn Musical Scholarship Award. Other solo work has included UK premieres by Louis Andriessen in the BBC Proms Plus concerts, various Handel repertoire for the Concordia Foundation recital series and performances of the Haydn trumpet concerto.
Throughout his early musical education Chris was actively involved with the Surrey County Youth Orchestra and was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. Following his undergraduate degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama Chris concluded his studies with a further year at the Royal College of Music, graduating with a PGDip.
