Chris Evans

Chris holds an esteemed reputation as a fine freelance trumpet player, regularly working with English National Ballet, the Philharmonia, London Symphony, BBC Concert and BBC Philharmonic Orchestras and also on Wizard of Oz at the London Palladium. Having performed as a guest Principal Trumpet in these orchestras he has enjoyed a varied schedule of concerts, recording sessions and tours under the direction of conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Daniel Harding and Ginandrea Noseda. Chris has also worked for the BBC Symphony, Royal Philharmonic Concert and London Philharmonic Orchestras and also English Touring Opera. He is currently on trial for the Principal Trumpet of Scottish Opera and Associate Principal Trumpet of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.

Chris has won various awards for his performances as a soloist including First Prize in the Guildhall Armourers and Brasiers Brass Prize (2008), Musicians Benevolent Fund Award (2009), Craxton Memorial Trumpet Award (2009), and the Philharmonia Orchestra Martyn Musical Scholarship Award (2007, 2008 and 2009); the latter giving Chris the opportunity to perform a solo recital in the Royal Festival Hall in 2010. Other solo work has included performing UK premiers by Louis Andriessen in the BBC Proms Plus concerts, various Handel repertoire for the Concordia Foundation recital series and performing the Haydn trumpet concerto with Guildford Symphony Orchestra.

Throughout his early musical education Chris was actively involved with the Surrey County Youth Orchestra. He has been a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and one of the youngest participants to win a place on the LSO St. Luke’s Brass Academy in 2004. Following his undergraduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Chris gained his BMus (hons) and in his spare time successfully worked towards an FRSM performance diploma. Chris concluded his studies with a further year at the Royal College of Music and graduated with a PGDip in 2010.
